Sexting is a portmanteau of sex and texting. It is the act of sending sexually explicit photographs, primarily between mobile phones. Although sending intimate pictures starts with two people, the amount of sharing and forwarding between people is limitless. I’m interested in creating the “What if” scenario in this portfolio. “What if this nude picture of myself gets forwarded to a stranger?” I was once asked to send an exposed picture of myself to an acquaintance, where I felt violated by just being asked the question. Ever since I’ve been interested in turning the table around and making people feel the same aggression I once felt. I asked as many friends and strangers as I could if they would send me nude pictures of themselves for this study, as well as any pictures they currently had saved on their cell phones of others. I have a collection of 58 pictures, some of my friends, and some “stolen sexts” of complete strangers. These images are no longer in their original intended sexual context, and have been taken out of the confides of the digital world.
